Kaal Sarp Dosh: What It Is, and What the Classical Texts Say

In popular belief, "Kaal Sarp" is said to form when all seven planets (Sun to Saturn) sit on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis. It is widely talked about, and often used to sell expensive pujas. Here is the honest picture.

It is not in the classical texts

Our team has read the classical books page by page — Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS), Phaladeepika, Saravali, Brihat Jataka, Jataka Parijata, Uttara Kalamrita, Sarvartha Chintamani, Prashna Marga and others. None of them describes a "Kaal Sarp yoga" or "Kaal Sarp dosh". It is a later tradition. Some texts mention a "sarpa dosha" or "sarpa shapa" in other contexts (for example BPHS, in the chapter on children), but those are different conditions with simple remedies like prayer and charity.

Our stance

VedicDost does not use Kaal Sarp to predict anything, and there is no need to fear it. A chart is read from the strength of planets, houses, yogas and the running dasha — not from one popular label. Lakhs of people with this pattern lead happy, successful lives.
