Frequently asked questions

How do I know which swar is active?

Hold a palm or a cool mirror under your nose; the side with more airflow is the active swar. If both are equal, it is Sushumna.

How often does the swar change?

Per the Shiva Swarodaya, the breath switches by itself roughly every 2½ ghatis (about an hour); health and weather affect it.

What if my nose is blocked?

With a cold or nasal problem the check is unreliable — do not rely on it then.
