Surya (Sun)
Surya (the Sun) is the king of the planets. In Vedic astrology it is the karaka (significator) of the soul, self-confidence, the father, government and prestige. The Sun's position in the birth chart (kundli) shows how radiant a person's personality is and what kind of standing they will build in society. It also indicates health and vitality.
A Strong Surya
People with a strong Sun are confident, natural leaders with clear thinking. They attain positions in government, administration and roles of honour.
A Weak Surya
A weak Sun may bring a lack of confidence, hesitation in decisions and a sense of distance from the father. A regular daily routine and morning sunlight improve this naturally.
Surya Dasha
The Vimshottari mahadasha (major planetary period) of the Sun lasts 6 years. During this time, matters of recognition, position, government work and the father come to the fore; the chances of hard work bearing fruit and of receiving honour increase.
